Wheelchair Fencing star dedicates medal to Brazil
Gold medallist Jovane Silva Guissone dedicated his medal to 'the disabled people in Brazil' after winning the men's Individual Epee - Category B yesterday. Guissone racked up a 15-14 victory against Tam Chik Sum of Hong Kong in the final at ExCeL. “I think this victory shows how capable disabled people are and what we can do in the sport.”, said Jovane Silva Guissone. He said: 'When the score was 11-13 and I was losing, I thought "I have to do something". However, I think that my opponent expected me to do something as it is expected from the person losing to be more
aggressive, but I really was careful. 'I kept myself really calm, I took some risks, attacked in the right way and I think this helped me to score
and to build the score to 14-14. At that point I thought "I have to go for it" and I did.' 'It's a shame to lose by one point, we both were very
evenly matched and he was just lucky to get that one point, that's what won him the gold,' said silver medallist Tam. 'I thought I played pretty well, I tried my hardest. This is my first Paralympics and I have been training very hard. My opponent was quite strong, apparently he's number one in South America.'
